How to Choose a Handwriting Teacher Training Program

Choosing handwriting teacher training? Check the syllabus, live mentoring, teaching practice, batch size and support after the course before you join.

To choose a handwriting teacher training program, check what the syllabus teaches, whether the mentoring is live, whether you practise teaching and get feedback, how many trainees share a batch, and what support you receive when you start teaching. A program that gives you practice and correction will prepare you better than one that only gives you material to read.

What should you check first?

  • whether the syllabus covers how to teach, correct mistakes, plan lessons and assess students, and not only how to write neatly
  • whether mentoring is live and who delivers it
  • whether you practise teaching and receive feedback on it
  • how many trainees are in one batch, since a smaller batch usually means more personal feedback
  • whether worksheets, lesson plans and assessment formats are included
  • what support you get when you begin teaching your first students

What questions should you ask a program?

  • Who is the trainer, and how long have they taught handwriting?
  • Is the mentoring live, and how often are the sessions?
  • Will I teach a practice class and get feedback on it?
  • What happens if I miss a session?
  • Can I see samples of how the trainer's own students write?
  • Is there support once I start teaching my own students?

How can you compare two programs fairly?

Compare what each program gives you, not how it sounds. Ask both for the course outline, a sample worksheet and a sample assessment, then place them side by side. A recorded-only course may leave you without anyone to correct your teaching, however polished the videos look. Look for practice, feedback and support you can rely on.

What does AJ Academy include?

AJ Academy's handwriting teacher training uses live mentoring and practical support, not theory alone.
