To start handwriting classes at home, learn a clear teaching method first, decide which age group and format you will teach, keep batches small, assess every child in the first class, and update parents regularly with samples. The method matters more than the room or the equipment.

What do you need before the first class?

  • a teaching method you can explain, covering grip, posture, letter formation and spacing
  • worksheets and practice routines for different levels
  • a simple assessment sheet to record each child's starting point
  • a quiet space with good light, and a stable camera and connection if you teach online
  • a way to share progress with parents, such as dated writing samples

Which age group and format should you choose?

Start with one age group so your worksheets and pace stay consistent. Choose one-on-one if you want maximum personal correction, or a small group so each child still gets individual feedback. AJ Academy teaches both ways, in small groups and one-on-one.

How should the first session go?

Ask the child to write a short passage and keep it as the starting sample. Note what you see: grip, posture, letter shapes, spacing and speed. Pick one or two things to improve first, give a short practice task and explain it to the parent. Young learners focus better in shorter sessions with small breaks, so AJ Academy classes include interactive breaks.

How do you show progress?

Compare dated samples side by side. Share a short note with the parent after each stage of practice. AJ Academy students often start showing visible improvement from about 15 days of guided practice, which is a useful expectation to discuss with parents at the start.

How can training help you begin?

A training program gives you the method, worksheets and assessment formats before you meet your first student. AJ Academy's handwriting teacher training is online with live mentoring and covers lesson planning, correction methods and parent communication.
